Residential Institutions Redress Board |
|
Residential
Institutions Redress Board was set up by the Irish Government under
the Residential Institutions Redress Act, 2002. The purpose of establishing
this Board is to make fair and reasonable awards to people who,
as children, were abused while resident in various institutions
in Ireland. Institutions that come under the remit of the Board
include industrial schools, reformatories and other institutions
in Ireland that were subject to State regulation or State inspection.
The
Board, which is wholly independent, is chaired by His Honour Judge
Seán O'Leary, Judge of the High Court.
All
applications for redress are treated in the strictest confidence,
and all hearings conducted by the Board are in private.
The
closing date for applications to the Redress Board is the 1st December
2005.
